Rev. Ed Stammel, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hicksville, had a vision regarding the educational needs of Long Island. During the 1950s, he inspired 17 colleagues to found the Long Island Lutheran High School. Those leaders and their congregations supported the preparatory school that is now in its 60th year of service.
The Church of Our Saviour, Lutheran in Manhasset, was among the supporting churches, and it remains one of the school’s associated congregations. Since its beginning, many members of our church family have been students of this premier educational institution. Currently, we have two members of the congregation enrolled as students. Many others have participated in its renowned summer recreational programs. We continue to support the program in many ways.
A few weeks ago, the school’s first graduating class, which refers to itself as LuHi’s “First Family,” held a class reunion. A member of our congregation was among the celebrants. Last Sunday, others from our local church visited the school to participate in its 40th annual food packing event. On November 2nd, LuHi will host its annual open house, and we encourage anyone with children of middle school or high school-aged students to take the time to visit this fabulous center.
This Sunday, October 24th, we celebrate our annual “LuHi Day,” a time a school representative visits our congregation to share its greetings and update us on the latest happenings. Jane Lottes, Head of Advancement, will join us for our 10:30 AM worship. Would you please join us in welcoming Jane as we give thanks for this wonderful educational ministry?
