Do you need a break from the hustle and bustle of this holiday season? How about settling down for an hour or so to enjoy the sounds of the season? We warmly invite you to attend the Island Winds Concert on Saturday, December 11, at 4:30 PM. You won’t want to miss these magnificent musicians!
The wind instruments the talented performers will use have a long history. Over twenty thousand years ago, our primitive ancestors realized that if they found a hollowed cane or bone with a hole in it, they could blow in it and make a different sound. These wind instruments would become the third type of man-made music, following the human voice and percussion.
The sounds made through wind instruments result from the vibration and the manual modifications of air passing through the instrument’s chamber. There are generally two types of wind instrument families, brass and woodwind. Brass may include horns, trumpets, trombones, euphoniums, and tubas, while woodwind would consist of recorders, flutes, oboes, clarinets, saxophones, and bassoons. Regardless of the type of instrument, if played proficiently, the music produced will be heavenly. We expect Saturday’s performance to be outstanding and festive! You won’t want to miss it!
The morning following the Island Winds concert, we will again gather to praise our Lord. Will you join us for the Third Sunday of Advent on Sunday, December 12? Worship services will be held 9:00 AM* (half-hour spoken liturgy with Holy Communion) or 10:00 AM (traditional liturgy with Holy Communion).
